My .308 Savage FP10 loves the 168gr SMK & 43.6gr of I4895 in a Winchester case. Seated at the lands it puts 3 rounds into .15MOA when I do my part & the wind cooperates.
I'm wanting to use this recipe behind a good whitetail bullet of the same weight range (165/168gr). Give me some recommendations based upon performance. Longest shots here in north Alabama is ~300yds. Thanks. _________________ "The woods are lovely dark & deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep..." Robert Frost |

Potentially I could gather some flak from some who believe Sierra's techs rather than their own field experiences, but I'm going to TRIPLE guarantee you that the Matchking load will kill anything dead right there (DRT) on the continent, with no problems at all. I've seen it done again and again and again and again... with never a failure.
I don't personally hunt with Matchkings, but I have see DEVASTATING wound channels cut by matchkings in plenty of deer over the years.
This all said...
If you really want a "hunting" bullet, and you don't want to mess with the rifle's set zero, try 43.7 grains of IMR 4895 and any good 165 grain bullet. They should shoot to nearly the same POI as the match load does, with plenty of velocity.
Another great .308 hunting load is the Nosler 180 grain ballistic tip in front of 44.0 grains of Varget. Super accurate, and works very well...
